MOBILE HANDSET INSURANCE POLICY COVERAGE BRIEF AND CLAIMS PROCEDURE

Insured Person: The insured person would be the purchaser of handset from Sangeetha, whose name is shown on the Invoice including the purchaser / owner or his / her spouse, Children and Parents. Where the purchaser is a company, Insured shall mean any representative / employee of the company authorised to use the Equipment. No other person except as stated above shall be eligible to claim compensation under the said insurance policy.

Policy Coverage: The Oriental Insurance company Ltd will, in the event of Loss of Insured Handset by Theft or Burglary approve for replacement of Your Equipment with a same or similar unit through Sangeetha Mobiles as per terms and conditions of policy. The policy includes.

 

  • Theft Cover: If the Equipment is stolen from the insured person where the thief has used violence or force against him or seriously threatened to use violence.
  • Theft from Building/Car. If the Equipment is stolen from a locked building, room, car to which the thief has gained access by force. In the event of theft from a car, the Equipment must have been placed in a locked compartment in the dashboard or boot so that it is not visible from the outside.

Exclusions: The following are the important exclusions under the policy. The insurers will not approve to replace Your Equipment under the following circumstances.
 

  • If the theft is caused by incorrect storage, careless use, negligence/ handset left unattended.
  • Simple loss of equipment, for example lost, forgotten or misplaced Equipment and simple theft where forcible entry has not occurred or no violence used.
  • Theft caused during war, civil unrest and damage caused by or in connection with nuclear accidents.
  • If the Equipment is lost intentionally by You.
  • If your Equipment is more than 1 year old (from first purchase).
  • Any theft that occurs whilst you are engaged in performing criminal acts, or acts of war (including terrorism), or your handset is used with your permission or knowledge of such acts.
  • Insurers will not be responsible for or reimburse you for any consequential costs whatsoever, or any costs incurred by you in making a claim under this policy, including postage, transit costs, data/ software replacement and reconnection costs. The insurers will also not accept or fulfil any replacement request for benefits where they have not received premiums as agreed at the time of purchase.
  • No liability whatsoever will arise under the policy if it is found that any of the claim documents have been tampered at any stage.
  • Loss of equipment placed in any two wheeler vehicle.

Compensation: The compensation amount payable by the insurance company for any Loss will be Subject to excess and depreciation clauses depending on age of hand set from date of purchase. The replacement unit will be of the same model as the original Equipment. The compensation payable shall be calculated as following clauses.
 

Depreciation Clause: The rates of depreciation would be as follows.

Excess Clause: The excess shall be 5% of the value of the claim, or 300 rupees, whichever is more.
The insured shall be required to pay the difference between the value of the replacement handset and the approved compensation amount.

Claims process:

  • The insured person shall contact us /UIB/Sangeetha immediately after the occurrence of the theft or burglary and follow their instructions. The claim papers should be submitted within 7 days of the occurrence of the event at the designated claim service point. You should provide us the proof or documents whatsoever necessary in support of your claim apart from the standard set of claim papers.
  • Burglary and theft shall be reported to the nearest police authority immediately (within 48 hours of occurrence of crime), and a police receipt shall be presented in connection with a notice of claim. In case of handsets valued above Rs.15000/- a FIR should be lodged and report obtained from police authorities.
  • In case of cognizable offence resulting in theft or damage to handset, police FIR needs to be obtained.
  • Notice of theft of a mobile phone shall concurrently be given to your Network Provider immediately with a view to limiting the risk of abuse by barring the connection and reissue of SIM.
